About Me

This site dedicated to my duties as a Community Leader at ParentsPlace Pregnant and Diabetic! Here I'll share information on being Pregnant and Diabetic. Currently I am neither pregnant nor diabetic but am praying for the former and planning for the latter.

PP Pregnant & Diabetic

As a Gestational Diabetic my Blood Glucose Levels were to be between 60-90 mg/dl (3.33-5 mol/l) fasting, and 80-120 mg/dl (4.44-6.67 mol/l) 2 hours after meals. I have read the 1 hour after meals should be no higher than 140 mg/dl (7.78 mol/l). I was also to use Ketostix to check my urine for Ketones in the morning. Anything over trace was cause for concern.

Key Points to Converting the Food Labels into Exchanges

Know the Serving Size.

Look at "Total Carbohydrate": 0-5 grams Don't Count, 6-10 grams Half Exchange, 11-15 grams One Exchange

Look at "Total Fat": 1-2 grams Don't Count, 3 grams Half Exchange, 4-5 grams One Exchange

Look at "Protein": 1-2 Don't Count, 3-5 Half Exchange, 6-7 One Exchange

I am very much a novice at this so please excuse my fumblings and let me know of anything that does not work. I will endevor to fix them and appreaciate all polite feedback.
